Happy New Year!

My fondest teatime memory is of Babington’s with M and Y. This was before I knew what to expect from teatime, before I spent hours and hours researching the history of teatime and learning the proper etiquette when taking tea. When the only thing I thought about was what a great time I was having with my family - and not to mention how delicious everything tasted.

Before I said, “Stop - don’t touch anything before I can take a picture” because I needed a good photo for my blog. Instead, it was, “Stop - don’t touch anything before I can take a picture” because I just wanted a nice photo for our memory book. Teehee. Some things never change.

I have so much catching up to do with this blog, but before I go back into time to share things from long ago, let’s start this year off with the most recent tea experience. Back to Italy, the land of … my first teatime. Sadly, not back to Babington’s, but instead, traveling the waters to Venice to try something new.

Well, hello there, Caffè Florian. Nice to meet you.

I didn’t even notice you were here the last time we visited and walked around St. Mark’s Squre, but apparently you’ve been around since December 29, 1720. Not a typo. You’re the oldest coffeehouse in Italy. Anyone can read the detailed history here, if interested. With about 300 years in the making, it’s worth a read.

We visited and probably should have tried the coffee (with it being the old coffeehouse and all), but when I looked at the menu and saw that they offered afternoon tea, the decision was pretty much made for me. No complaints here.

With decor this opulent, let the teatime photo experience begin!

No reservations. It’s a big place and we were seated as soon as we walked in. Guests didn’t seem to stay too long.

Thanks for stopping by.

See you next teatime,
