:-: NESPRESSO VERTUO :-:
Hi there! Bet you didn’t expect to see another post so soon.
Well, surprise! I’m back to post about something not related to tea, teacups, or champagne.
*gasp*
So, truth be told, I do love tea (could you guess?) BUT if I want to get my day started and not face plant halfway through the day, I need lots of caffeine (i.e., coffee because tea just doesn’t cut it in that regard). I had been eyeing a specific Nespresso machine for a few years, but for some reason, I kept talking myself out of purchasing it. I’d looked at it many, many times, put it into my virtual shopping cart many, many times, but never checked out.
UNTIL I thought it would be a good idea to try putting an espresso pod into my trusty old Keurig. Bad idea. After that failed attempt, the machine overflowed and I had to immediately shut it off. It still brews k-cups just fine, but now tends to leak when not in use. Perfect excuse for an upgrade.
Hello, beautiful.
I spent a lot of time researching the different machines, so I wanted to quickly summarize the options I considered to save you some time in case you’re deciding on purchasing one also.
(1) Vertuo
machine only: $219 // machine + milk frother bundle $269
This Vertuo machine is the original version. It looks retro and sleek and has great reviews online - especially with regard to durability. A lot of reviews mentioned that this machine brews coffee and espresso that is sweeter-tasting than the other Nespresso machines (when using the same pods for side-by-side comparisons). This what was I picked and I couldn’t be happier.
(2) Vertuo Plus
machine only: $169
The Vertuo Plus is the most automated option. You just push a button and the top lifts up so that you can pop your pod in. It has a smaller footprint than the original Vertuo and an option to place the water tank on either side of the machine, depending on what works best for your kitchen layout. Or office. Or bedroom. Or bathroom. I don’t know where you’re putting your machine. You do you. I almost got this one, but it didn’t have a chrome option, and I figured the automated lid was just another feature that might eventually break on me. Other than that, though, this machine had very good reviews online.
(3) Vertuo Next
deluxe machine only: $209 // deluxe machine + milk frother bundle $259
The Vertuo Next is available in 3 styles (standard, premium, deluxe). If you go into a Nespresso store, they’ll likely have the Vertuo Pop (mini version) and the Vertuo Next in stock. This machine can brew carafes of coffee (super cute). It also has bluetooth so you can connect it to your phone for alerts (e.g., time to descale), but the bluetooth doesn’t allow you to brew remotely, so this doesn’t seem to be a very useful feature. Online reviews mentioned that this brews the pods a bit more bitter tasting than the original Vertuo and sometimes has less crema. A LOT of reviews also mentioned that this machine leaks. Frequently. And it was extremely difficult to open and close. I had to use two hands and put my back into it lol. Fighting with my coffee/espresso machine is not how I want to start my mornings.
Regardless of which machine you ultimately select, each one comes with a lovely starter pack so you can try out some pods as soon as you get it home.
I’’ll have more Nespresso-related posts to come, but for now:
What are your favorite Nespresso pods?
